General Overview

Cheerleading focuses on fundamental cheerleading skills with an emphasis on teamwork, safety, and sportsmanship.

Competition Cheerleading – Grades 1-8

This highly competitive league focuses on building cheerleading skills such as stunting, tumbling, jumps, dance, and performance. Cheerleaders are expected to attend at least two practices per week, as well as cheer at home Rams Football games on weekends at Graf Park. Grades 1-8 are competitive teams and will compete in at least three ICA competitions throughout the season. All athletes must adhere to the program attendance policy. Registration includes competition fees, practice space fees, sideline uniform, competition uniform top, competition uniform bottom, bow, shoes, poms, as well as this year’s newly added mandatory skills clinic fees. Separate expenses may include fundraising, individual squad fund fees, and state competition fees.

Sideline Only Cheer Option – Grades K-8

Wheaton Rams Cheer introduces a Sideline Cheer Program for athletes in grades K-8. This program is perfect for those who want to experience cheerleading in a fun and supportive environment with friends. Athletes will practice once a week, learning sideline cheers, jumps & stunting techniques as well as cheer at all Rams home football games. Our sideline cheer teams will NOT participate in competitions. The season will run from August through November.

Cheerleaders are expected to work as a team and attend two-three practices per week. The squads cheer at home Rams football games on Saturdays starting in mid-August through the first week of November. We expect to cheer at a minimum of six games and participate in local competitions. Practices start mid-July and continue through the end of November.

Registration for Grade K (non-competing): Cheerleaders receive poms, bow and cheer shirt for game days and performances. All events are held within Wheaton city limits.

Registration for Grades 1-8 (competing): Includes uniform, competition fees, practice space fees, competition bow, poms and shoes. Separate expenses include fundraising, individual squad fund fees and state registration fees.

Participants keep their uniform at the end of the season. Uniform styles and designs change from season to season. New participants must provide a copy of their birth certificate at uniform fittings in April. The purchase of spirit wear is optional. Parental support of their child’s squad and coaches is necessary for the success of the program.

Please Note:

  • Special squad requests are not accepted for cheerleading.
  • Cheerleaders participating in the Wheaton Park District Youth Cheerleading program are not allowed to participate in travel and/or all-star cheer squads.
  • New participants must turn in a birth certificate copy when registering
